AESA is an engineering company founded in 1982, specializing in the development of energy solutions for industrial and tertiary-sector clients. The company provides a comprehensive range of services, including consultancy, engineering design, project management, commissioning, and operational supervision, covering the entire lifecycle of energy installations, from concept development and feasibility assessment to construction and operation.

During the 1980s and 1990s, AESA played a key role in promoting cogeneration and the expansion of natural gas use within Spanish industry. The company successfully designed and commissioned more than 150 energy plants, representing over 1,300 MW of installed electrical capacity and 3,000 MW of thermal capacity.

Today, AESA works with a broad portfolio of energy technologies to provide tailored solutions that maximize energy efficiency and support deep decarbonization strategies. The company combines extensive industrial experience with advanced engineering capabilities to help clients optimize the use of available energy resources and transition towards more sustainable energy systems.

Innovation has always been a core element of AESA’s identity. Throughout its history, the company has developed pioneering energy solutions, earning recognition for its innovative contributions to the sector. Notably, AESA was nominated for the Prince of Asturias Award for Business Creativity in recognition of landmark projects such as the trigeneration plant at Vall d’Hebron Hospital and the biomass-based district heating network developed in Torelló.

AESA has also maintained a strong commitment to the development of proprietary engineering tools, culminating in the creation of TESYS, its in-house process simulation and calculation software, designed to support the analysis and optimization of complex energy systems.

The company began its involvement in hydrogen technologies through its collaboration with IREC in the HYBCN project, contributing expertise in thermal management, thermodynamic simulation, mechanical engineering, and control systems for the development of hydrogen-based prototypes and energy systems. Afterwards, AESA has participated in numerous R&D projects focused on emerging energy technologies.

Within the COMECOCO2 project, AESA contributes its expertise in thermodynamic modelling, process engineering, energy integration and system optimization, supporting the development and integration of the renewable methanol production system.
